UNCOVERING THE COMPLEXITY OF THE MICROSOFT SPLA PROGRAM

Hello
We have a private cloud solution on which we hope to install our applications on and allow external clients to access these applications. A few of the applications use SQL Server as the backend database.
Do we require a SPLA for hosting our apps that use SQL Server or can we use our core based licenses?
Thanks.
